However a compassionate and supportive approach demonstrates that the organisation values its employees, helps build commitment, reduce sickness absence, and retain the workforce.\u00a0This <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acas.org.uk\/media\/pdf\/0\/m\/Managing-bereavement-in-the-workplace-a-good-practice-guide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">guidance <\/a>can help employers prepare for managing bereavement in the workplace by having a clear bereavement policy and by training managers and selected staff to have compassionate and effective conversations with bereaved employees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Values Based Recruitment special report &#8211;\u00a0Health Service Journal<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS Employers\u00a0have worked with the Health Service Journal to create a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhsemployers.org\/~\/media\/Employers\/Documents\/Recruit\/VBR%20HSJ%20Supplement%20Sep%202014.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">special report<\/a> on Values Based Recruitment (VBR) in the NHS. This report discusses the implications of this financial gap for quality of care in the NHS. It argues that additional resources alone will not be enough to close the \u2018quality gap\u2019: the difference between the quality of care the NHS should deliver, and what it is capable of delivering. Increasingly tight budgets make it likely that the quality gap will get wider.
