{"id":11262,"date":"2018-05-15T14:58:50","date_gmt":"2018-05-15T13:58:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lihnnhs.info\/Sando\/?p=11262"},"modified":"2018-05-15T14:59:14","modified_gmt":"2018-05-15T13:59:14","slug":"knowledge-lert-for-tuesday-15th-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lihnnhs.info\/Sando\/2018\/05\/15\/knowledge-lert-for-tuesday-15th-may\/","title":{"rendered":"Knowledge @lert for Tuesday 15th May"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Quality of care in maternity services<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS England has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/publication\/the-fifteen-steps-for-maternity-quality-from-the-perspective-of-people-who-use-maternity-services\/\">Fifteen steps for maternity: quality from the perspective of people who use maternity services<\/a>.\u00a0 This document is part of a suite of toolkits for \u2018The Fifteen Steps Challenge\u2019; this toolkit helps maternity services to explore the experience of service users.\u00a0 It has been co-created with maternity service users, including those from seldom heard and minority groups and organisations that represent them.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Assurance in the NHS<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Good Governance Institute has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.good-governance.org.uk\/services\/the-surprising-benefits-to-performance-that-mechanising-assurance-can-bring\/\">The surprising benefits to performance that mechanising assurance can bring<\/a>.\u00a0 This paper investigates the benefits that mechanising assurance, and the use of integrated assurance software, can bring to NHS organisations and wider systems.\u00a0 It includes a set of recommendations for providers, regulators and others.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Antimicrobial prescribing, resistance and healthcare associated infections<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Department of Health and Social Care has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/APRHAI-annual-reports\">Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Prescribing, Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infection (APRHAI): 8th Annual Report, April 2016 &#8211; March 2017<\/a>. \u00a0This report provides a summary of activities carried out by the APRHAI advisory committee between April 2016 and March 2017.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Anaphylaxis in anaesthesia and surgery<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Royal College of Anaesthetists has published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalauditprojects.org.uk\/NAP6Report\">Anaesthesia, surgery and life-threatening allergic reactions: report and findings of the Royal College of Anaesthetists\u2019 6<sup>th<\/sup> National Audit Project<\/a>.\u00a0 The audit investigated every case of life-threatening anaphylaxis that occurred in NHS during one year.\u00a0 The findings are wide-ranging, highlighting new trends in the drugs causing anaphylaxis and the need for changes to hospital procedures and training, combined with better reporting and investigation of incidents.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Health and social care in Liverpool<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Care Quality Commission has published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cqc.org.uk\/news\/releases\/cqc-publishes-review-how-local-health-social-care-systems-work-together-liverpool\">Liverpool: local system review report<\/a>.\u00a0 This review has been carried out as part of a programme of 20 targeted reviews of local authority areas. The purpose of this review is to understand how people move through the health and social care system with a focus on the interfaces between services.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Stress: are we coping?<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Mental Health Foundation has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mentalhealth.org.uk\/publications\/stress-are-we-coping\">Stress: are we coping?<\/a> \u00a0This report looks at the prevalence of stress in the UK and its implications. It also focuses on what people can do to manage and reduce stress and sets out recommendations for the government in creating a stress-free UK.\u00a0 This report has been published in conjunction with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mentalhealth.org.uk\/campaigns\/mental-health-awareness-week\">Mental Health Awareness Week 2018<\/a> (14-20 May).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Cyber news brief<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS Digital has published a briefing summarising recent progress on improving cyber security.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/digital.nhs.uk\/news-and-events\/latest-news\/cyber-news-brief\">Cyber News Brief<\/a> describes the work undertaken by the NHS Digital Data Security Centre, the centralised Windows 10 agreement, cyber security assessments, Data Security Protection Toolkit, improving communications during an incident and a collaboration forum.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Prescribing indicators<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Department of Health and Social Care is introducing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/medicine-safety-indicators-for-safer-prescribing\">prescribing indicators<\/a> to inform safer prescribing practice.\u00a0 The experimental indicators link prescribing data from primary care with hospital admissions for the first time. The purpose is to identify prescribing that could potentially increase the risk of harm and that may be associated with hospital admission.\u00a0 The first indicators focus on how different medicines may be contributing to people being admitted to hospital with gastro-intestinal bleeding. The programme will cover more medicines and associated conditions later in the year.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Mapping the NHS winter<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS Providers has published its final overview of its Winter watch series <a href=\"http:\/\/nhsproviders.org\/mapping-the-nhs-winter\">Mapping the NHS winter<\/a>.\u00a0 This briefing presents the winter of 2017\/18 in numbers and looks at pressures on the ambulance service, pressures in A&amp;E, capacity and what can be done to ensure the health service is ready next winter.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Promoting health in black, Asian and other minority ethnic groups<\/strong><br \/>\nNICE has published a Quality Standard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/guidance\/qs167\">Promoting health and preventing premature mortality in black, Asian and other minority ethnic groups<\/a> (QS167).\u00a0 This standard, covering all age groups and all settings,\u00a0 draws attention to some of the specific areas of inequality for people from black, Asian and other minority ethnic groups, such as increased health risks, poor access to and experience of services, and worse health outcomes.
