Emergency readmissions to hospital<\/strong>
\nThe Nuffield Trust and the Health Foundation have published Emergency readmissions: trends in emergency readmissions to hospital in England<\/a>.\u00a0 This report, part of the QualityWatch research programme, looks at hospital data detailing patient diagnoses and the reasons behind emergency hospital readmissions between 2010\/11 and 2016\/17. It aims to highlight where improved quality of care in hospital or the community might have prevented readmission.\u00a0 The analysis tracks a 19% rise in patients being readmitted to hospital in an emergency within 30 days of discharge between 2010\/11 and 2016\/17. Within this, the author identifies a 41.3% rise in emergency readmissions for conditions they classify as \u201cpotentially preventable\u201d.<\/p>\n

\nThe Royal College of Emergency Medicine has published RCEM winter flow project: final report: June 2018<\/a>.\u00a0 This report summarises data collected weekly from 56 sites between October 2017 and March 2018 measuring four-hour performance, acute bed capacity, delayed transfers of care, cancelled elective operations and the number of locums and agency staff sites employ.\u00a0 The report confirms that, despite some improvements, winter of 2017\/18 was one of the worst for emergency care system performance in the history of the NHS.<\/p>\n
