This document presents the survey results from a Healthcare Costing for Value Institute survey of costing practitioners to gauge whether there is the capability and capacity within the NHS to deliver the requirements of the Costing Transformation Programme, as well as promote the use of cost data.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>New models of integrated care<\/strong><br \/>\nThe National Association of Primary Care has published <a href=\"http:\/\/napc.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Provision-of-integrated-care.pdf\">Achieving the provision of integrated care: exploring the development and successful implementation internationally of new models of integrated care<\/a> (pdf).\u00a0 This report of a two-day symposium attended by health experts from the UK, USA and Ireland, traces the development and impact of integrated care to date, highlights some examples of successful practice and draws out the key lessons for later-adopters.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Quality in emergency care<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS Improvement has published the following guides:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/improvement.nhs.uk\/resources\/managing-increased-demand-winter-illness\/\">Ambulatory care guide: managing increased demand from winter illness<\/a> &#8211; outlines key approaches to avoid unnecessary admissions, reduce length of stay and promote efficient patient flow in emergency care during winter<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/improvement.nhs.uk\/resources\/ambulatory-emergency-care-guide-same-day-acute-frailty-services\/\">Ambulatory emergency care guide: same day acute frailty services<\/a> \u2013 offers practical tools available to optimise outcomes for older people with frailty in urgent care<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/improvement.nhs.uk\/resources\/ambulatory-emergency-care-guide-same-day-emergency-care-clinical-definition-patient-selection-and-metrics\/\">Ambulatory emergency care guide: same day emergency care \u2014 clinical definition, patient selection and metrics<\/a> &#8211; offers clinically effective guidance on how to select patients for ambulatory emergency care, as well as guidance on emergency patient flow to identify a large cohort of patients who can safely be treated on the same day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Developing new care models through vanguards<\/strong><br \/>\nThe National Audit Office has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nao.org.uk\/report\/developing-new-care-models-through-nhs-vanguards\/\">Developing new care models through NHS vanguards<\/a>. This report examines whether the NHS is well placed to get value for money from its investment in developing new care models through vanguards. In particular, it focuses on the set up and management of the vanguard programme; national support and evaluation; progress made by the vanguards; and readiness for the spread of these new care models.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Learning from safety incidents<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Care Quality Commission has published a series of resources aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of people using their services.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cqc.org.uk\/guidance-providers\/learning-safety-incidents\">Learning from safety incidents resources<\/a> cover falls from improper use of equipment, unsafe use of bed rails, fire risk from the use of emollient creams, burns from hot water or surfaces, and safe management of medicines.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Patient data: type 2 objections error<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health has issued a written statement regarding a supplier defect in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parliament.uk\/business\/publications\/written-questions-answers-statements\/written-statement\/Commons\/2018-07-02\/HCWS813\/\">processing of historical patient objections to the sharing of their confidential health data<\/a>. An error occurred when 150,000 Type 2 objections set between March 2015 and June 2018 in GP practices running TPP\u2019s SystmOne were not sent to NHS Digital.\u00a0 This means that data for these patients has been used in clinical audit and research.\u00a0 The error has now been resolved for any future data disseminations.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Pressure ulcer resources<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS Improvement has published:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/improvement.nhs.uk\/resources\/pressure-ulcers-revised-definition-and-measurement-framework\/\">Pressure ulcers: revised definition and measurement framework<\/a> \u2013 supports board and senior leaders to deliver a consistent approach to defining and measuring pressure ulcers<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/improvement.nhs.uk\/resources\/pressure-ulcer-core-curriculum\/\">Pressure ulcer core curriculum<\/a> \u2013 provides education to nurses and other healthcare professionals on the steps needed to prevent pressure ulcers from developing and causing avoidable harm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>NHS pay system<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Centre for Policy Studies has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cps.org.uk\/publications\/an-nhs-bonus\/\">An NHS bonus: how fixing the NHS\u2019s broken pay system can deliver better outcomes for patients<\/a>.\u00a0 This report argues that by introducing greater flexibility into the system, and linking pay more closely with performance and objectives, both NHS productivity and patient outcomes could be improved. It urges the Government, and NHS managers, to make reform of the pay system an urgent priority as part of the new funding settlement.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Workforce census data<\/strong><br \/>\nThe following health workforce census reports have been published:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcr.ac.uk\/publication\/clinical-oncology-uk-workforce-census-2017-report\">Clinical Oncology UK Workforce Census Report 2017<\/a> &#8211; provides a profile of the clinical oncology workforce in the UK.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcplondon.ac.uk\/projects\/outputs\/focus-physicians-2017-18-census-uk-consultants-and-higher-specialty-trainees\">Focus on Physicians 2017-18 census (UK consultants and higher specialty trainees)<\/a> &#8211;
