{"id":11971,"date":"2018-08-29T09:39:50","date_gmt":"2018-08-29T08:39:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lihnnhs.info\/Sando\/?p=11971"},"modified":"2018-08-29T09:39:50","modified_gmt":"2018-08-29T08:39:50","slug":"knowledge-lert-for-wednesday-29th-august","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lihnnhs.info\/Sando\/2018\/08\/29\/knowledge-lert-for-wednesday-29th-august\/","title":{"rendered":"Knowledge @lert for Wednesday 29th August"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Reducing emergency admissions \/ managing long-term conditions<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Health Foundation has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.org.uk\/reducing-emergency-admissions-better-manage-long-term-conditions\">Reducing emergency admissions: unlocking the potential of people to better manage their long-term conditions<\/a>.\u00a0 This briefing summarises research that explores the link between how well patients feel able to manage their long-term conditions such as asthma, diabetes and depression and their use of health care.\u00a0 The findings show the NHS could reduce avoidable health care use and improve people\u2019s quality of life, if they were better supported to manage their long-term conditions.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Electronic prescribing<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Department of Health and Social Care has announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/expansion-of-electronic-prescribing-at-gps-and-pharmacies\">regulations will be changed to replace paper prescriptions with electronic prescriptions<\/a>.\u00a0 Thousands of paper prescriptions are still issued each year due to current regulations limiting the circumstances in which electronic prescriptions can be issued.<\/p>\n<p>Changes to these regulations will be made later this year, to expand electronic prescribing for nearly all prescriptions.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Prescribing in primary care<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS England has published the following documentation for CCGs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/publication\/prescribing-of-over-the-counter-medicines-is-changing\/\">Prescribing of over the counter medicines is changing<\/a> &#8211; four documents to help CCGs implement recommendations and support discussions between patients and their healthcare professionals<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/publication\/quick-reference-guide-for-healthcare-professionals-items-which-should-not-routinely-be-prescribed-in-primary-care\/\">Quick reference guide for healthcare professionals: items which should not routinely be prescribed in primary care<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>No-deal Brexit planning<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Department of Health and Social Care has collated information for health and care organisations regarding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/information-for-the-health-and-care-sector-about-planning-for-a-potential-no-deal-brexit\">planning for a potential no-deal Brexit<\/a>.\u00a0 The resources cover technical notices, contingency planning, EU citizens and legislation around withdrawal.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Healthcare sustainability<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Royal College of Physicians has launched a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcplondon.ac.uk\/news\/rcp-launches-nhs-healthcare-sustainability-animation\">animated video outlining the impact the NHS has on the environment<\/a> and how health professionals can incorporate sustainability in their work.\u00a0 It highlights how NHS activity can impact environmental issues such as climate change, reduce air quality, and lead to long term conditions for patients including respiratory diseases and cancers.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Gluten free foods on prescription: consultation<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Department of Health and Social Care has launched a consultation on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/consultations\/gluten-free-foods-on-nhs-prescription\">proposed changes to what gluten-free foods are available on NHS prescription in England<\/a>. Following the March 2017 consultation on the availability of gluten-free foods on NHS prescription, the government has decided to restrict gluten-free prescribing to bread and mixes only.\u00a0 This new consultation provides the draft regulations that will allow this and describes what will be done to apply the changes.
