The chancellor confirmed that the NHS would receive \u00a320bn from the government by 2023 to relieve pressures on the health service&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Clinical negligence: patient motivation in making a claim<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS Resolution has published <a href=\"https:\/\/resolution.nhs.uk\/2018\/10\/23\/nhs-resolution-research-explores-claimant-motivation\/\">Behavioural insights into patient motivation to make a claim for clinical negligence<\/a>.\u00a0 This research sets out the factors which lead patients to consider a claim for compensation when something goes wrong in their healthcare.\u00a0 A key finding of the research was that the response following an incident and the handling of any complaint made at the time featured highly in decisions to make a claim for compensation.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Antimicrobial utilisation and resistance<\/strong><br \/>\nPublic Health England has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/english-surveillance-programme-antimicrobial-utilisation-and-resistance-espaur-report\">English Surveillance Programme for Antimicrobial Utilisation and Resistance (ESPAUR) report 2018<\/a>. \u00a0The ESPAUR report includes national data on antibiotic prescribing and resistance, antimicrobial stewardship implementation, education and engagement activities.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Amending the 2012 Act<\/strong><br \/>\nThe King\u2019s Fund has published a long read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingsfund.org.uk\/publications\/amending-2012-act-can-it-be-done\">Amending the 2012 Act: can it be done? <\/a>\u00a0This short article identifies some of the main complaints about how the current Health and Social Care Act 2012 operates; outlines some of the implications should attempts be made to amend it; and asks how far progress could be made within the existing legislation.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Stopping fraud against the NHS<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Department of Health and Social Care has announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/stopping-fraud-against-the-nhs-new-plans-announced\">how it will take tougher action on fraud over the next 5 years<\/a>.\u00a0 The measures include digesting prescription payment exemptions and a new collaboration between the NHS and a leading UK fraud prevention service.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Children who need palliative care<\/strong><br \/>\nThe All-Party Parliamentary Group for Children Who Need Palliative Care has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.togetherforshortlives.org.uk\/changing-lives\/speaking-up-for-children\/policy-advocacy\/all-party-parliamentary-group-for-children-who-need-palliative-care\/\">End of life care: strengthening choice<\/a>.\u00a0 This is the report of an inquiry into the extent to which the government is meeting its end of life care choice commitment for babies, children and young people.\u00a0 The inquiry identified a number of challenges and makes recommendations which need to be met if the government is to meet its end of life care choice commitment by 2020.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>The NHS: a role as a lifestyle coach?<\/strong><br \/>\nHealthwatch has surveyed over 2000 adults about their confidence in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthwatch.co.uk\/news\/2018-10-25\/should-nhs-become-more-lifestyle-coach-tackle-unhealthy-living\">ability of health and social care services to meet their needs<\/a> today and in 20-30 years&#8217;
