at the possible reasons why progress on stillbirths and neonatal and infant mortality has slowed down in the UK in recent years and what can be done about it.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Winter planning in emergency departments<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Royal College of Emergency Medicine has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcem.ac.uk\/RCEM\/News\/News_2018\/RCEM_launches_guidance_to_maintain_safety_in_EDs_ahead_of__unrelenting_and_challenging_winter_.aspx\">Improving safety in the emergency Following the Government\u2019s announcement to reschedule certain cannabis-based products for medicinal use, this guidance sets out expectations of what this regulatory change will mean in practice for clinicians in England.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Gluten free foods on NHS prescription<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Department of Health and Social Care has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/consultations\/gluten-free-foods-on-nhs-prescription\">Responses to the consultation on the gluten-free food regulations<\/a>.\u00a0 This report summarises the gluten-free foods on NHS prescription consultation responses received, including the main issues raised, and provides details on the updates that will take place to the Drug Tariff for prescribing in England.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Public policy and kindness<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Carnegie UK Trust has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carnegieuktrust.org.uk\/publications\/kindness-emotions-and-human-relationships-the-blind-spot-in-public-policy\/\">Kindness, emotions and human relationships: the blind spot in public policy<\/a>.\u00a0 This report argues that there have been good reasons for keeping kindness separate from public policy but that public policy challenges demand an approach that is more NHS.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Intermediate care<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Social Care Institute for Excellence has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scie.org.uk\/prevention\/independence\/intermediate-care\/for-staff\">Promoting independence through intermediate care: a quick guide for staff delivering intermediate care services<\/a>.\u00a0 This short guide provides an overview of planning and delivering person-centred intermediate care covering communication, core principles, person-centred planning, personalised goals and risk.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Contract dispute resolution: lessons learned<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS England has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/publication\/lessons-learned-from-contract-dispute-resolution\/\">Lessons learned from contract dispute resolution<\/a>.\u00a0 NHS England and NHS Improvement have produced this document containing ten helpful hints for commissioners and providers to avoid conflict.\u00a0 It includes links to useful websites.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Towards integrated care<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS Clinical Commissioners has published the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhscc.org\/latest-news\/7328\/\">first two of a series of case studies from the Core Cities Network<\/a> following the local areas\u2019 journey towards delivering more integrated approaches to health and care:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/445oon4dhpii7gjvs2jih81q-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Core-Cities-Network-case-study_Newcastle_WEB.pdf\">Clinical engagement and collaboration (Newcastle Gateshead CCG)<\/a> &#8211; explores the value of clinical engagement and collaboration, as well as the challenges and benefits from working across different geographies.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/445oon4dhpii7gjvs2jih81q-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Core-Cities-Network-case-study_Notts_WEB.pdf\">The Greater Nottingham Transformation Partnership<\/a> &#8211; looks at how commissioners and providers in Nottingham used the results of system-wide actuarial analysis to develop a framework that improves care, infrastructure and governance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Prevention is better than cure<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Department of Health and Social Care has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/prevention-is-better-than-cure-our-vision-to-help-you-live-well-for-longer\">Prevention is better than cure: our vision to help you live well for longer<\/a>.\u00a0 This document sets out the government&#8217;s vision for putting prevention at the heart of the nation&#8217;s health.\u00a0 It aims to stop health problems from arising in the first place as well as to support people to manage their health problems when they do arise.\u00a0 The goal is to improve healthy life expectancy by at least 5 extra years, by 2035, and to close the gap between the richest and poorest.\u00a0 A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/prevention-is-better-than-cure-case-studies\">collection of case studies<\/a> has been published, showing examples of good practice in preventing health problems from happening.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Personalised care models<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS England has published the following models relating to personalised care:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/publication\/comprehensive-model-of-personalised-care\/\">Comprehensive model of Personalised Care<\/a> \u2013 this model helps to establish a whole-population approach to supporting people of all ages and their carers to manage their physical and mental health and wellbeing, build community resilience, and make informed decisions and choices when their health changes.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/publication\/personalised-care-operating-model\/\">Personalised care operating model<\/a> \u2013 this model shows how all the various components work together to deliver a joined-up approach around the needs of each individual.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Maternal deaths<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hqip.org.uk\/resource\/maternal-newborn-and-infant-programme-saving-lives-improving-mothers-care\/#.W-AKBdL7RaQ\">Saving Lives, Improving Mothers\u2019 Care<\/a>.\u00a0 This is the fifth edition of the Maternal, Newborn and Infant Clinical Outcome Review Programme\u2019s report concerning maternal deaths and morbidity. The report includes surveillance data on women who died during or up to one year after pregnancy between 2014 and 2016 in the UK.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Alcohol treatment inquiry<\/strong><br \/>\nPublic Health England has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/alcohol-treatment-inquiry-summary-of-findings\">PHE inquiry into the fall in numbers of people in alcohol treatment: findings<\/a>.\u00a0 This document presents the findings and recommendations from PHE\u2019s inquiry into the fall in numbers of people in treatment for alcohol dependence.\u00a0 They can be used to inform local commissioning and service development plans for increasing the numbers of people in alcohol treatment.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Test Beds Programme: evaluation learning<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS England has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/publication\/nhs-england-test-beds-programme-evaluation-learning-from-wave-1\/\">NHS England Test Beds Programme: evaluation learning from Wave 1<\/a>.\u00a0 This document shares learning about conducting real-world evaluations based on the experiences of Wave 1 of the Test Beds programme.
