{"id":12654,"date":"2018-12-18T11:31:40","date_gmt":"2018-12-18T11:31:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lihnnhs.info\/Sando\/?p=12654"},"modified":"2018-12-18T11:31:40","modified_gmt":"2018-12-18T11:31:40","slug":"knowledge-lert-for-tuesday-18th-december","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lihnnhs.info\/Sando\/2018\/12\/18\/knowledge-lert-for-tuesday-18th-december\/","title":{"rendered":"Knowledge @lert for Tuesday 18th December"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Maternal and neonatal health safety collaborative &#8211;\u00a0NHS Improvement<\/strong><br \/>\nUpdated:\u00a0Update to support offer section to include driver diagrams and change package resources.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/improvement.nhs.uk\/resources\/maternal-and-neonatal-safety-collaborative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A three-year programme<\/a> to support improvement in the quality and safety of maternity and neonatal units across England.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Risk of harm from inappropriate placement of pulse oximeter probes &#8211; NHSI<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/improvement.nhs.uk\/news-alerts\/risk-of-harm-from-inappropriate-placement-of-pulse-oximeter-probes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This alert <\/a>asks providers to ensure staff have access to appropriate equipment and the information they need to use these devices safely.<\/p>\n<p>A warning alert has been issued on the risk of harm from inappropriate placement of pulse oximeter probes.\u00a0Measurement of oxygen saturation, using a pulse oximeter probe, is\u00a0routinely undertaken as part of patients\u2019 vital signs during diagnosis and\u00a0ongoing monitoring.\u00a0\u00a0Oximeter probes can be single or multiple use and are designed to attach to specific parts of the body.\u00a0Adult oximeter probes can be attached to either\u00a0a finger or an ear, but are not interchangeable between these sites, whilst\u00a0probes for babies and children need to be selected according to the patient\u2019s\u00a0weight.\u00a0If an oximeter probe intended for the finger is attached to the ear (or vice versa), or a probe intended for an adult is attached to a baby or a child (or vice versa), it can produce a reading up to 50% lower or 30% higher than the real value.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Driving forward system working<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS Providers and NHS Clinical Commissioners have published <a href=\"https:\/\/nhsproviders.org\/driving-forward-system-working\">Driving forward system working: a snapshot of early progress in collaborative commissioning<\/a>.\u00a0 This report explores emerging practice in systems that are rethinking the way in which they plan and design services at a local level to support the delivery of joined-up and sustainable care.
