{"id":13499,"date":"2019-04-25T10:48:55","date_gmt":"2019-04-25T09:48:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lihnnhs.info\/Sando\/?p=13499"},"modified":"2019-04-25T10:48:55","modified_gmt":"2019-04-25T09:48:55","slug":"knowledge-lert-for-wednesday-25th-april-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lihnnhs.info\/Sando\/2019\/04\/25\/knowledge-lert-for-wednesday-25th-april-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Knowledge @lert for Wednesday 25th April"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Waiting time review: potential impact on A&amp;E<\/strong><br \/>\nThe King\u2019s Fund has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingsfund.org.uk\/publications\/nhs-england-review-waiting-times-accident-emergency\">What does the NHS England review of waiting times mean for accident and <strong>emergency<\/strong> departments?<\/a>\u00a0 This \u2019long read\u2019 weighs up the impact of the four-hour target and outlines seven key issues for the new standards that have been proposed for emergency departments.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Digital health interventions<\/strong><br \/>\nThe World Health Organisation has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/reproductivehealth\/publications\/digital-interventions-health-system-strengthening\/en\/\">Recommendations on digital interventions for health system strengthening<\/a>.\u00a0 The key aim of this guideline is to present recommendations based on a critical evaluation of the evidence on emerging digital health interventions that are contributing to health system improvements, based on an assessment of the benefits, harms, acceptability, feasibility, resource use and equity considerations.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Specialist dementia nurses<\/strong><br \/>\nThe National Institute for Health Research has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.york.ac.uk\/che\/news\/news-2019\/specialist-dementia-nurses\/\">Specialist nursing support for unpaid carers of people with dementia: a mixed-methods feasibility study<\/a>.\u00a0 This study found specialist nursing support to carers of people with dementia may enable them to continue providing care to the end or very close to the end of the dementia journey. The outcomes for such carers may be no different from, or even slightly better than, those of similar carers without this support, although the costs to health and social care services are the same in each case.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Community services and the long term plan<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS Providers has published <a href=\"https:\/\/nhsproviders.org\/news-blogs\/news\/will-the-nhs-long-term-plan-give-the-community-services-sector-the-national-focus-it-deserves\">Community services: our time<\/a>.\u00a0 This is the fourth edition of <em>Provider Voices<\/em>, which promotes the views of trust leaders and other parts of the system on some of the key issues facing health and care services today.\u00a0 This issue explores the opportunities and risk for community services as a result of the NHS long term plan.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Public Health England business plan<\/strong><br \/>\nPublic Health England has published their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/phe-business-plan-2019-to-2020\">Annual business plan 2019\/20<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 The business plan sets out the core purpose of Public Health England, significant achievements in 2018 to 2019 and priority actions for 2019 to 2020 to protect and improve the public\u2019s health and reduce health inequalities.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Child health information<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS Digital has announced the launch of a new service which enables <a href=\"https:\/\/digital.nhs.uk\/news-and-events\/latest-news\/national-events-management-service\">access to child health information<\/a> by health professionals and parents at the point of care.\u00a0 The National Events Management Service has initially launched in North East London and allows parents and health professionals to securely receive information digitally and use it to inform decisions on care and treatment.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>NICE indicator process guide: consultation<\/strong><br \/>\nNICE has launched a consultation on proposed amendments to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/standards-and-indicators\/consultation-on-the-updated-indicator-process-guide\">processes used to develop NICE indicators<\/a> from quality standards, guidance and NICE accredited sources.\u00a0 The consultation closes on 25 July 2019.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Reducing avoidable lengthy stays in hospital<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS England is rolling out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/2019\/04\/digital-tool-to-help-reduce-avoidable-lengthy-stays-in-hospital\/\">Capacity Tracker<\/a> which allows health and social care staff to see how many vacancies there are in local care homes, saving time phoning around to check availability and helping people to get the right care or return home as quickly as possible.\u00a0 The digital portal allows care homes to upload details of their available beds, helping health and social care staff to find the right services for individual patients, including those with dementia or a learning
