\nThe Nuffield Trust has published The gender pay gap in the English NHS: analysis of some of the underlying causes<\/a>.\u00a0 This briefing looks at differences in basic pay between men and women employed by the NHS in England, based on data from the NHS electronic staff record for one month. It draws on previous analyses to describe the extent of pay differences by staff group, pay band, age and ethnicity; it also identifies factors that drive those differences.<\/p>\n

\nThe National Audit Office has published Investigation into penalty charge notices in healthcare<\/a>.\u00a0 This report examines the health sector\u2019s use of penalty charge notices sent to those who claim a free prescription or dental treatment without a valid reason, whether fraudulently or in error.\u00a0 It focuses on the entitlement to free prescriptions and dental care; the use of penalty charge notices to recover funds for the NHS and to deter fraud; and improving knowledge about eligibility for exemptions.<\/p>\n
