It also aims to help patients make decisions about their planned care. It is for adults, young people and children in hospitals and diagnostic settings. Planned care covers elective surgery (day surgery and inpatient stays), interventional procedures, diagnostics and imaging. The report calls for a long-term approach for the health and care service in England, to build resilience for any future crisis and to ensure the system isn\u2019t always \u2018running hot\u2019 during normal times.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Coronavirus\u00a0(COVID-19): support for wellbeing in the healthcare workforce &#8211; Cochrane Library<\/strong><br \/>\nThis Special Collection brings together Cochrane evidence on interventions that may help <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cochranelibrary.com\/collections\/doi\/SC000045\/full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">support the wellbeing of the healthcare workforce and reducing occupational stress<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>NHS nurse numbers continue to rise with 13,502 more than last year &#8211; Department of Health and Social Care.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the year to April 2020, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/nhs-nurse-numbers-continue-to-rise-with-13502-more-than-last-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">number of nurses<\/a> in the NHS in England increased by 13,502.<\/li>\n<li>The number of doctors increased by 7,890.<\/li>\n<li>All professionally qualified clinical staff, doctors, nurses, paramedics and support to clinical staff are at record levels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>New blended learning nursing degree &#8211; NHS Employers<\/strong><br \/>\nA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhsemployers.org\/news\/2020\/07\/new-blended-learning-nursing-degree\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new blended learning nursing degree programme<\/a> has been announced by Health Education England to provide a flexible study option for those wishing to pursue a career in nursing.\u00a0Starting from January 2021, the blended nursing degree will combine digital and traditional elements of learning and help to attract those who may previously have had barriers to a nursing career.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Supporting\u00a0staff to return to the workplace &#8211; NHS Employers<\/strong><br \/>\nWith the recent announcement to pause shielding for clinically vulnerable people from 1 August 2020, there will be greater numbers of staff returning to the workplace. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhsemployers.org\/covid19\/health-safety-and-wellbeing\/supporting-staff-to-return-to-the-workplace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">This guidance<\/a> outlines: the organisational considerations when planning for staff to return; tips for managers; signposts to useful resources; and good practice examples from NHS trusts.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Report recommends apprenticeship flexibilities &#8211; NHS Employers<\/strong><br \/>\nThe All-Party Parliamentary Group on Apprenticeships (APPG) has made a number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhsemployers.org\/news\/2020\/07\/report-recommends-apprenticeship-flexibilities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">key recommendations to improve the delivery and uptake of apprenticeships<\/a>.\u00a0Published in its annual report, the APPG\u2019s recommendations include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>implementing the flexible approach to end-point assessments developed during lockdown<\/li>\n<li>pausing the expiry of apprenticeship levy funds for at least six months<\/li>\n<li>allowing a proportion of levy funds to be spent on \u2018off the job\u2019 costs<\/li>\n<li>establishing a stakeholder working group to develop innovative ways to retain apprentices and ensure the continuing talent pipeline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Resuming\u00a0health services during the Covid-19 pandemic: what can the NHS learn from other countries? It considers what might be learned from the approaches used internationally, and how long it might take to fully recover.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Guidance:\u00a0Healthcare education and training tariff: 2020 to 2021 Department of Health and Social Care\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nInformation about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/healthcare-education-and-training-tariff-2020-to-2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">what the tariffs cover, how to use the tariffs and in what circumstances the national tariffs may be varied<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>NHS\u00a0rolls out &#8216;COVID-friendly&#8217; cancer treatments &#8211; NHS England\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS England has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/2020\/08\/covid-friendly-cancer-treatments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">earmarked \u00a3160 million to fund 50 treatments approved as &#8216;swaps&#8217; <\/a>for existing drugs to reduce adverse effects, to take as oral medication at home, or as an alternative to hospital treatment.
