It looks at whether health and social care organisations are sharing information wisely and preventing improper disclosure of personal data. It shows evidence of pockets of exemplary practice but the overall picture is of a need for improvement. It concludes that a basic condition for building public trust is a commitment to more transparency about how data is collected, stored and used.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>The invisible patients: revealing the state of neurology services &#8211;\u00a0The Neurological Alliance<\/strong><br \/>\nThis <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neural.org.uk\/store\/assets\/files\/495\/original\/Invisible_patients_-_revealing_the_state_of_neurology_services_final_14_January_2015_.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">report <\/a>brings together the findings of the Neurological Alliance\u2019s inaugural quality of commissioning audit and neurological patient experience survey and identifies significant variation in the quality of the commissioning of neurological services among CCGs. In response, it sets out a number of recommendations.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Developing musculoskeletal networks<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong>The NHS Confederation and the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Alliance have jointly published a musculoskeletal (MSK) resource pack.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhsconfed.org\/resources\/2015\/01\/developing-msk-networks-a-resource-pack\">Developing MSK Networks<\/a> provides commissioners of MSK services with a framework for planning and developing a local MSK network, and signposts to a wider range of additional materials which may be useful as they undertake this task.\u00a0 The pack is in a pilot phase until March 2015 and comments on the pack are welcomed.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Ambulance call handling pilots<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong>Two new pilots which aim to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/2015\/01\/16\/medical-accuracy\/\">reduce wasted ambulance journeys and improve the quality of care for all patients contacting 999<\/a> have been announced.\u00a0 Clinical experts believe extending the call handling time by 120 second for\u00a0non-life threatening\u00a0calls will reduce the number of double dispatches, freeing up more ambulances to respond to more patients, and will also allow the 999 response to be more accurately\u00a0targeted to patient need, improving the service as a whole. \u00a0The\u00a0two\u00a0pilots\u00a0are proposed as\u00a0London\u00a0and South Western Ambulance Service.\u00a0 It is anticipated the first pilot will start in February.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s going on in A&amp;E?<br \/>\n<\/strong>The King\u2019s Fund has added a page to their website providing answers to key questions relating to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingsfund.org.uk\/projects\/urgent-emergency-care\/urgent-and-emergency-care-mythbusters\">What\u2019s going on in A&amp;E?<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0 Questions include: have A&amp;E waiting times risen dramatically; has the number of people going to A&amp;E increased;\u00a0 do more patients needed to be admitted to a hospital bed from A&amp;E; and is the increase in A&amp;E attendances mainly a result of people going to A&amp;E when they should go somewhere else?<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Mental Health Act 1983: code of practice<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong>The Department of Health has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/code-of-practice-mental-health-act-1983\">Mental Health Act 1983: code of practice<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 This revised code shows professionals how to carry out their responsibilities under the Mental Health Act 1983 and guides patients, their families and carers on their rights.\u00a0\u00a0 Following a consultation, the code was revised to take account of stakeholders\u2019 views, and reflects changes in legislation, case law, policy and professional practice since its last revision in 2008.
