The principal aim of the NETS is the achievement of a step-change in the quality of health services delivered to people living in the North East region of England. The paper charts the origins of the NETS and its early journey before describing what happened to it when the UK coalition government published its proposals for unexpected major structural change in the NHS. This had a profound impact on the leadership and direction of the NETS and resulted in it taking a different direction from that intended.

Contact the Library & Knowledge Service to request this article or Phn. 01704 704202

Emergency department pilots partnership with private pharmacists – Health Service Journal
North Manchester General Hospital has installed a private healthcare provider pharmacist at its A&E department to ease demand by treating patients with common ailments and minor injuries.

Contact the Library & Knowledge Service to request this article or Phn. 01704 704202

Most providers believe they cannot sign contracts before April, survey finds – Health Service Journal
A majority of provider sector finance chiefs believe that their organisations will not be able to sign contracts before the start of the coming financial year, according to a snap survey shared with HSJ.

Contact the Library & Knowledge Service to request this article or Phn. 01704 704202

A&E consultants resign en masse from trust – Health Service Journal
Five accident and emergency consultants have resigned from a troubled West Midlands acute trust across two hospitals, including all four consultants from one department.

Contact the Library & Knowledge Service to request this article or Phn. 01704 704202

Making NICE guidelines mandatory ‘counterproductive’, says former chair – Health Service Journal
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence’s former chair Sir Michael Rawlins has criticised NHS commissioners for ‘poorly implementing’ the body’s guidelines but said making them mandatory would be ‘counterproductive’.

Contact the Library & Knowledge Service to request this article or Phn. 01704 704202

Expert Patients – The Reform Research Trust
This report explores how patients can be more engaged in their health and more involved in their healthcare.
