This annual European-wide aims to raises awareness on how to use antibiotics in a responsible way that will help keep them effective for the future<\/p>\n<p><strong>NHS whistleblowing policy: consultation<br \/>\n<\/strong>Monitor, NHS Trust Development Authority and NHS England have jointly launched an open consultation on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/consultations\/freedom-to-speak-up-whistleblowing-policy-for-the-nhs\" target=\"_blank\">whistleblowing policy for the NHS<\/a>.\u00a0 The policy is intended to be adopted by all NHS organisations in England except for primary care providers. It is also hope it will also be adopted by independent providers of NHS healthcare.\u00a0 The policy sets out: who can raise a concern; the process for raising a concern; how the concern will be investigated and what will be done with the findings of the investigation. The consultation runs until the 8 January 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NICE local practice case studies<br \/>\n<\/strong>NICE has published three new local practice case studies<strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/sharedlearning\/integrated-care-clinical-pharmacist-for-frail-older-people-case-management-and-enhanced-rapid-response\" target=\"_blank\">Integrated Care Clinical Pharmacist for Frail Older People: Case Management and Enhanced Rapid Response<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/sharedlearning\/implementing-faecal-calprotectin-testing-in-primary-care\" target=\"_blank\">Implementing faecal calprotectin testing in primary care<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/sharedlearning\/primary-and-secondary-care-for-women-with-urinary-incontinence-\u2013-under-one-roof\" target=\"_blank\">Primary and secondary care for women with urinary incontinence<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>NHS acronym app<br \/>\n<\/strong>NHS Confederation has released an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhsconfed.org\/resources\/2015\/11\/acronym-buster-quiz\" target=\"_blank\">NHSAcronym<\/a> app which contains the definition of over 700 commonly used acronyms and abbreviations in the NHS.<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><strong>Place-based systems of care<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span>The King\u2019s Fund has published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingsfund.org.uk\/publications\/place-based-systems-care\" target=\"_blank\">Place-based systems of care: a way forward for the NHS in England<\/a>.\u00a0 This paper proposes a new approach to tackling the challenges of growing financial and service pressures at a time of rising demand. It argues that NHS organisations need to move away from a \u2018fortress mentality\u2019 whereby they act to secure their own individual interests and future, and instead establish place-based \u2018systems of care\u2019 in which they collaborate with other NHS organisations and services to address the challenges and improve the health of the populations they serve.<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><strong>Clinical Entrepreneur training programme<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">A national training programme to nurture England\u2019s most inventive and innovative clinicians is now open for applications. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/2015\/11\/11\/cent-programme\/\" target=\"_blank\">Integrated Clinical Entrepreneur Training programme<\/a> developed and managed by NHS England and Health Education England, is designed to keep the most forward-thinking, entrepreneurial clinicians within this country, bringing the benefit of cutting-edge new treatments and care pathways to the patients who need it and keeping the money generated within the British economy<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Intermediate Care Audit<br \/>\n<\/strong>NHS Benchmarking has published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhsbenchmarking.nhs.uk\/CubeCore\/.uploads\/NAIC\/Reports\/NAICReport2015FINALA4printableversion.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">National Audit of Intermediate Care Summary Report 2015: Assessing progress in services for older people aimed at maximising independence and reducing use of hospitals<\/a>.\u00a0 The audit provides an analysis of the models and performance of services that support, typically older, frail people with high levels of need and complex comorbidities, after leaving hospital or at risk of being sent to hospital or long term care. The audit looks at four service categories: crisis response; home based intermediate care; bed based intermediate care and re-ablement services.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NICE guidance: menopause: diagnosis and management<br \/>\n<\/strong>NICE has published new guidance <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/guidance\/ng23\" target=\"_blank\">Menopause: diagnosis and management<\/a> (NG23).\u00a0 This guideline covers the diagnosis and management of menopause, including in women who have premature ovarian insufficiency. The guideline aims to improve the consistency of support and information provided to women in menopause.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Continuous improvement of patient safety<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Health Foundation has published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.health.org.uk\/publication\/continuous-improvement-patient-safety\" target=\"_blank\">Continuous improvement of patient safety: the case for change in the NHS<\/a>. This report synthesises the lessons from the Health Foundation\u2019s work on improving patient safety.\u00a0 It illustrates why improving safety is so difficult and complex, and why current approaches need to change. It also highlights some of the work being done to improve safety and offers examples and insights to support practical improvements in patient safety.\u00a0 Finally, the report explains why the system needs to think differently about safety.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Facilitating early supported discharge for older patients<br \/>\n<\/strong>The NHS Confederation has published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhsconfed.org\/resources\/2015\/11\/bch-case-study\" target=\"_blank\">Facilitating early supported discharge for older patients &#8211; Bristol Community Health&#8217;s &#8216;in-reach&#8217; service<\/a><strong>.\u00a0 <\/strong>This case study reports on Bristol Community Health\u2019s in-reach servicewhichallows staff from the rapid response team to actively \u2018pull\u2019 patients from acute wards and arrange for their care in community services.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Devolution<br \/>\n<\/strong>The King\u2019s Fund has published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingsfund.org.uk\/publications\/devolution\" target=\"_blank\">Devolution: what it means for health and social care in England<\/a>.\u00a0 This briefing describes the origins of the devolution agenda and charts its progress in relation to health and social care.
