This report, published in partnership with NHS Providers, draws on the views and experiences of twelve departed or departing chief executives, or those changing jobs within health care.\u00a0 It aims to illuminate the realities of leadership in today\u2019s NHS.\u00a0 The interviews illustrate both the positives of the job and its current difficulties.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Leading in clinical commissioning<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS Clinical Commissioners has published <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhscc.org\/latest-news\/4787\/\">What makes a top clinical commissioning leader<\/a><\/strong>?\u00a0 This report highlights how both clinical and managerial leaders are integral to the success of a CCG, bringing different strengths to the organisation and its ability to deliver more for patients. The report sets out how current leaders can be supported, and a future generation inspired and encouraged to take up a role in commissioning.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Supply of NHS clinical staff<\/strong><br \/>\nThe House of Commons Committee of Public Accounts has published <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.parliament.uk\/business\/committees\/committees-a-z\/commons-select\/public-accounts-committee\/news-parliament-2015\/nhs-staff-numbers-report-published-15-16\/\">Managing the supply of NHS clinical staff in England: Fortieth Report of Session 2015\u201316<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 The report is calling for an urgent review of NHS clinical staffing in England and raises serious concerns about supply, budgeting, agency costs and leadership.\u00a0 In particular, the committee finds that there has been no coherent attempt to assess the headcount implications of a 7-day NHS.\u00a0 In\u00a0 2014,\u00a0 there was an overall shortfall of around 5.9% between the number of clinical staff that healthcare providers said\u00a0 they needed and the number of staff in post, equating\u00a0 to\u00a0 a\u00a0 gap of around 50,000 staff.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Leadership and change will bring us resilience \u2013 Professor Jane Cummings, NHS England Blog<\/strong><br \/>\nIn the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/2016\/05\/jane-cummings-22\/\" target=\"_blank\">second of a series of three blogs<\/a>, the Chief Nursing Officer for England marks International Nurses Day: \u2018A force for change, improving health systems\u2019 resilience\u2019 is the theme of International Nurses Day this year.
