However, it warns that if the NHS is to continue to be at the forefront of improving patient care, supporting research, new techniques and ideas must become business as usual.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Scarlet fever guidance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Public Health England (PHE) has reported a continued substantial increase in scarlet fever notifications across England with 1,049 new cases reported from 31 March to 6 April. Scarlet fever is a seasonal disease and this is the time of year when the highest numbers of cases are typically seen. PHE has published new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/phe-publish-guidance-for-managing-the-continuing-increase-in-scarlet-fever-cases\">guidance on the public health management of scarlet fever outbreaks<\/a>in schools, nurseries and other child care settings. The guidance will support Health Protection Teams, working closely with schools, nurseries and colleagues in local authorities, to control outbreaks of scarlet fever in child care settings and protect vulnerable children and adults.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC): proposed changes to the governing legislation\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Department of Health (DH)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The legislation that governs the NMC is currently restricting its ability to effectively carry out some of its duties. Proposed changes to the Nursing and Midwifery Order 2001 will improve handing of fitness to practice cases; allow registrants who are not fit to practice to be removed from the register; and change who sits on registration appeal panels.
