The NHS is facing a growing number of cyber threats, with more than 70 cyber incidents disclosed in<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Improvement tools and resources<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">NHS Improvement shared learning has updated its <a href=\"https:\/\/improvement.nhs.uk\/resources\/improvement-directory\/\">Improvement directory<\/a>. So how can nurses make a positive impact on their patients\u2019 psychological recovery? <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/ebn\/2017\/01\/08\/diaries-for-critical-care-patients\/\" target=\"_blank\">Patient diaries are increasing in popularity in the UK after originating in Scandinavia<\/a>. The subject of a recent Cochrane review (Ullman et al., 2015), the evidence base for diaries and guidance for those completing them remains scanty. However, the premise is simple and low cost. Nurses complete entries throughout the patient\u2019s critical care admission, describing events and the environment in layman\u2019s terms. The diary is given to the patient after discharge, often at a follow-up clinic where further support can be accessed. The aim is, simply, to fill in memory gaps and encourage discussion<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Oral health in care homes and hospitals: NICE quality standard &#8211;\u00a0National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)<\/strong><br \/>\nThis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/guidance\/GID-QS10025\/documents\/draft-quality-standard\" target=\"_blank\">draft quality standard<\/a>, out for consultation, advises care home staff to assess the oral health needs of their residents on admission and record these in personal care plans. It also advises that care home residents should be supported to clean their teeth or dentures on a regular basis to maintain oral health and enhance dignity and self-esteem.\u00a0The consultation on this quality standard closes on 3 February 2017.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Diabetic eye screening: competencies for administrative staff &#8211; Public Health England (PHE)<\/strong><br \/>\nThis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/581225\/Diabetic_eye_screening_aministrative_staff_competencies.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">guidance <\/a>aims\u00a0\u00a0to help diabetic eye screening providers develop local frameworks to train and develop administrative staff. Local diabetic eye screening providers are advised to implement the competencies in this document and any additional competencies relevant to their local service. This will help to make sure administrative work is carried out effectively and appropriately.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Learning from appraisal could help to spot doctors in difficulty, say researchers &#8211; BMJ News<\/strong><br \/>\nA group of researchers are seeking to gather doctors\u2019 experiences of appraisal and revalidation in a bid to see if more can be done to spot <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/356\/bmj.j136?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+bmj%2Fnews+%28Latest+BMJ+News%29\" target=\"_blank\">those who are in difficulty <\/a>sooner.
