The research found that there were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.health.org.uk\/sites\/health\/files\/ReducingAdmissionsGPContinuity.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">fewer hospital admissions for certain conditions<\/a> when the patient saw the same GP more consistently. Patients who saw their usual GP two or more times out of every ten were associated with six per cent fewer avoidable hospital admissions.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">STP governance arrangements<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Healthcare Financial Management Association has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hfma.org.uk\/publications\/details\/emerging-approaches-developing-sustainability-and-transformation-plan-governance-arrangements\">Emerging approaches: developing sustainability and transformation plan governance arrangements<\/a>.\u00a0 This briefing explores the emerging governance arrangements being developed to support the delivery of sustainability and transformation plans.\u00a0 It includes a view on what is working well and details of where further work is required.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>NHS acute hospitals report<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Care Quality Commission has published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cqc.org.uk\/content\/state-care-nhs-acute-hospitals\">The state of care in NHS acute hospitals: 2014 to 2016: findings from the end of CQC\u2019s programme of NHS acute comprehensive inspections<\/a>. The report has been derived from three years\u2019 worth of CHC inspections into the quality of care being provided by NHS acute hospitals. It finds that most hospitals are delivering good quality care and looking after patients well, however, some trusts have blind spots about the quality of care they are delivering in a particular core service, even in some trusts rated good overall.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">How is the NHS performing?<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">The King\u2019s Fund has published its 22<sup>nd<\/sup> quarterly monitoring report <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingsfund.org.uk\/publications\/articles\/how-nhs-performing-march-2017\">How is the NHS performing?<\/a>\u00a0 This report combines publicly available data on selected NHS performance measures with views from NHS finance directors and Clinical Commission Group finance leads.\u00a0 It provides an update on how the NHS is coping with productivity and reform challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Shifting the balance of care<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Nuffield Trust has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk\/research\/shifting-the-balance-of-care-great-expectations\">Shifting the balance of care: great expectations<\/a>. This report is based on a literature review assessing the evidence for moving care out of hospital and the assumption that it will save money.\u00a0 It explores five key areas: elective care, urgent and emergency care, admission avoidance and easier discharge, at risk populations, and self-care.\u00a0 The report is intended to help inform local strategies and STPs.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Productivity, technology and the NHS<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong>Newchurch has published an occasional paper on <a href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/jillr\/Downloads\/Prod%20&amp;%20Tech%20A%20Newchurch%20Paper%20Feb%202017PDF%20(3).pdf\">Productivity, technology and the NHS<\/a> (pdf).\u00a0 This paper looks at the approach of the NHS to productivity improvement half-way through the implementation of the Five Year Forward View.\u00a0 It particularly examines the role of digital technology in delivering productivity improvements.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Hospital doctors\u2019 experiences<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong>The Royal College of Physicians has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcplondon.ac.uk\/projects\/outputs\/against-odds-experiences-nhs-front-line\">Against the odds: experiences from the NHS front line<\/a>.\u00a0 This report collates hospital doctors\u2019 experiences of working in NHS hospitals between December 2016 and January 2017.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Financial sustainability of the NHS<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">The House of Commons Public Accounts Committee has published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parliament.uk\/business\/committees\/committees-a-z\/commons-select\/public-accounts-committee\/news-parliament-2015\/financial-sustainability-nhs-report-published-16-17\/\">Financial sustainability of the NHS<\/a>.\u00a0 This report examines the growing pressure on health finances and sets out new and urgent recommendations to government.\u00a0 It calls on the Department of Health, NHS England and No. 10 to work together saying that central government is asking local bodies to solve multiple problems and deliver a range of priorities without a proper understanding what they can realistically achieve.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Seven day services<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">NHS Improvement has published a number of <a href=\"https:\/\/improvement.nhs.uk\/resources\/seven-day-services\/\">case studies relating to the implementation of the seven day services programme<\/a>. The seven day services programme is designed to ensure that patients admitted as an emergency, receive high quality consistent care, whatever day they enter hospital.\u00a0 27 trusts have been early adopters of the four priority clinical standards and are working towards implementing these by April 2017.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Cyber security<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong>The Healthcare Financial Management Association has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hfma.org.uk\/publications\/details\/cyber-abcs-an-introduction-for-accountants-board-members-and-chief-finance-officers-in-the-nhs\">Cyber ABCs: an introduction for accountants, board members ad chief finance officers in the NHS<\/a>.\u00a0 The briefing looks at areas where the NHS needs to try harder in its approach to cyber security and sets out a series of pointers that will help organisations think about their approach.
