The first 500 places will be allocated to medical schools and will be available to students in September 2018. This consultation seeks views on how to maximise the benefits from the increases in medical student numbers.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Fair care for trans patients: An RCN guide for nursing and health care professionals: 2nd ed. \u2013 Royal College of Nursing\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nThe RCN recognises that trans people frequently experience prejudice and discrimination. Initially created in response to an RCN Congress resolution, this guidance has been updated following further research from other organisations.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Understanding devolution: a critical appraisal of the Greater Manchester devolution deal &#8211; <\/strong><strong>New Economics Foundation (NEF)<\/strong><br \/>\nThis <a href=\"http:\/\/neweconomics.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/NEF_BULLETIN_DEVO-TO-THE-GMCA_E-version-21.02.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">paper <\/a>presents an assessment of the devolution process in Greater Manchester so far and highlights key issues for consideration for future devolved local areas. The analysis identifies the integration of health and social care as the service area which will undergo the greatest change in terms of public service reform in devolved regions.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>NHS England Dementia: Good Care Planning: Information for primary care providers and commissioners \u2013 NHS England<\/strong><br \/>\nThis <a href=\"http:\/\/allcatsrgrey.org.uk\/wp\/download\/governance\/clinical_governance\/guidelines\/dementia-good-care-planning.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">guide <\/a>is aimed at primary care and commissioners, particularly GPs, who provide care plan reviews. It is designed to help improve care planning in dementia by supporting a standardised approach, highlighting good practice, ensuring alignment with relevant cross condition care plans and help to reduce local variation in the process.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Health in rural areas<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">The Local Government Association has published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.local.gov.uk\/web\/guest\/publications\/-\/journal_content\/56\/10180\/8343588\/PUBLICATION\">Health and wellbeing in rural areas: case studies<\/a>. This document presents case studies to encourage local authorities to build on and share their work in designing health and care interventions that target those most in need in rural communities. It includes examples that go beyond the traditional \u2018medical model\u2019 of public health and build on some of local authorities\u2019 other responsibilities including planning, housing, economic regeneration and leisure services.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Apprenticeships: shaping the healthcare workforce\u00a0 &#8211; NHS Employers<\/strong><br \/>\nIn an article for the Nursing Times, Danny Mortimer, chief executive of NHS Employers, looks at the shape of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhsemployers.org\/news\/2017\/03\/apprenticeships-shaping-the-healthcare-workforce\" target=\"_blank\">future workforce and the role that apprenticeships can play<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>What self-management after stroke means to stroke survivors and physiotherapists<br \/>\n<\/strong>A new study <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stroke.org.uk\/news\/new-study-what-self-management-after-stroke-means-stroke-survivors-and-physiotherapists\">Exploring stroke survivors&#8217; and physiotherapists&#8217; views of self-management after stroke: a qualitative study in the UK<\/a><\/strong> has been published in BMJ Open.\u00a0 This UK study looks for the first time at both stroke survivors\u2019 and physiotherapists\u2019 views of self-management after stroke. Based on interviews with thirteen stroke survivors recently admitted to a London stroke unit and thirteen physiotherapists involved in their care, key differences were found in how self-management was understood.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Health and wellbeing of NHS staff<br \/>\n<\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">NHS Employers has launched a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhsemployers.org\/news\/2017\/03\/new-resource-to-help-you-deliver-a-robust-and-effective-health-and-wellbeing-offer\">new web page and published a new poster<\/a> to show the eight elements that are critical to delivering a robust and effective health and wellbeing offer for staff.
