CQC NHS enforcement action triples – HSJ<\/strong><\/p>\n

The number of enforcement actions<\/a> issued by the Care Quality Commission to NHS trusts surged last year, in a further sign of the increased willingness of regulators to take action over quality concerns in the wake of the Francis report.\u00a0\u00a0Papers presented at the regulator\u2019s board meeting last week show that in 2013-14 it issued 73 enforcement actions to NHS trusts \u2013 a more than threefold increase on the 21 actions issued in 2012-13.\u00a0The hike mirrors a\u00a0similar increase in Monitor\u2019s use of regulatory action<\/a>\u00a0reported by\u00a0HSJ<\/em>\u00a0in January.<\/p>\n
