{"id":8745,"date":"2017-09-14T12:11:33","date_gmt":"2017-09-14T11:11:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lihnnhs.info\/Sando\/?p=8745"},"modified":"2017-09-14T13:17:35","modified_gmt":"2017-09-14T12:17:35","slug":"knowledge-lert-for-thursday-14th-september","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lihnnhs.info\/Sando\/2017\/09\/14\/knowledge-lert-for-thursday-14th-september\/","title":{"rendered":"Knowledge @lert for Thursday 14th September"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<p><strong>A Short Guide to the Department of Health and NHS England &#8211;\u00a0National Audit Office\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nThis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nao.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/2017-Short-Guide-to-the-Department-of-Health-and-NHS-England.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">short guide<\/a> summarises what the Department of Health and NHS England do, how much they spend, organisations that oversee, support and deliver health and social care, recent and planned changes, key themes from NAO reports, commissioning plans and organisation of regulation and oversight.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>New technology helping to tackle frailty in older people &#8211;\u00a0NHS England\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS England is reporting the trialling of new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/2017\/09\/nasa-meets-hollywood-as-new-technology-helps-tackle-nhs-fraility-in-older-people\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wearable sensors<\/a>, based on technology used by NASA and the CGI film industry, to help identify older patients at risk of falls as part of a new drive to tackle frailty. One system, designed to analyse the way a patient walks, was developed in partnership with Intel and tested at University College Dublin&#8217;s Institute for Sports and Health. In Sheffield, the Perfect Patient Pathway Test Bed is testing Kinesis&#8217; QTUG device for patients over 65 who have no recorded falls and score as &#8216;moderately frail&#8217;. The system sees patients walk with the motion sensor attachments on their legs while an app carries out the analysis.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Sepsis Quality standard [QS161]\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nThis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/guidance\/qs161\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">quality standard <\/a>was published in September 2017. It covers the recognition, diagnosis and early management of sepsis for all populations. It describes high-quality care in priority areas for improvement.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Cross-system sepsis action plan 2017\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nThis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/publication\/cross-system-sepsis-action-plan-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">document <\/a>identifies further actions which will be undertaken by healthcare organisations to enable continuing improvements in sepsis care across over the next year. Amongst others, this document is aimed at CCG clinical leaders.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>NHS is warned to be on high alert for flu this winter &#8211;\u00a0BMJ<\/strong><br \/>\nThe head of NHS England has warned hospitals and GP surgeries to be prepared for a big <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/358\/bmj.j4284.short?rss=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">increase in cases of flu<\/a> this winter after a heavy season in the southern hemisphere.Speaking at the Health and&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>MRSA, MSSA and E. coli bacteraemia and C. difficile infection: quarterly epidemiological commentary &#8211;\u00a0Public Health England\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nThe commentaries contain national <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/statistics\/mrsa-mssa-and-e-coli-bacteraemia-and-c-difficile-infection-quarterly-epidemiological-commentary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aggregated data and an overview of the trends<\/a> in the mandatory reports of\u00a0HCAI; meticillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), meticillin susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteraemia and Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) infection, over recent quarters.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Number of written complaints about NHS increases 4.9 per cent &#8211; Health and Social Care Information Centre<\/strong><br \/>\nThere were 208,400 written complaints received by the NHS during 2016\/172 &#8211; up 4.9 per cent on the previous year, NHS Digital <a href=\"http:\/\/content.digital.nhs.uk\/article\/7833\/Number-of-written-complaints-about-NHS-increases-49-per-cent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">figures released today<\/a> show.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Partnering for Improvement: inter-organisational developments in the NHS<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>&#8211; Health Services Management Centre, University of Birmingham<\/strong><br \/>\nThis <a href=\"http:\/\/www.birmingham.ac.uk\/schools\/social-policy\/departments\/health-services-management-centre\/news\/viewpoint\/2017\/09\/is-together-always-better.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">research <\/a>explored the expectations and realities of partnering across different spectrums &#8211; individual, mandated, structural and voluntary partnering &#8211; and identifies a number of key learning points.<br \/>\nThe report presents a range of implications of relevance to all those with an interest in pursuing partnering &#8211; NHS providers, policymakers and regulators.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Practical guide for large scale change launched &#8211;\u00a0NHS England<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS England has launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/2017\/09\/practical-guide-for-large-scale-change-launched\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">refreshed guide<\/a> to support health and care leaders to deliver large scale change. The guide will help them meet the challenges set out in the\u00a0Next Steps on the NHS Five Year Forward View published earlier this year.
