{"id":8934,"date":"2017-09-28T10:08:08","date_gmt":"2017-09-28T09:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lihnnhs.info\/Sando\/?p=8934"},"modified":"2017-09-28T10:08:08","modified_gmt":"2017-09-28T09:08:08","slug":"knowledge-lert-for-thursday-28th-september","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lihnnhs.info\/Sando\/2017\/09\/28\/knowledge-lert-for-thursday-28th-september\/","title":{"rendered":"Knowledge @lert for Thursday 28th September"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Patient safety alert: Risk of severe harm and death from infusing total parenteral nutrition too rapidly in babies &#8211; NHS Improvement<\/strong><br \/>\nA <a href=\"https:\/\/improvement.nhs.uk\/resources\/patient-safety-alerts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warning alert<\/a> has been issued on the risk of harm and death from infusing total parenteral nutrition too rapidly in babies.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Freedom to Speak Up guardian survey 2017: findings and recommendations &#8211;\u00a0Care Quality Commission (CQC)<\/strong><br \/>\nThis <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cqc.org.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/20170915_Freedom_to_Speak_Up_Guardian_Survey_2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report <\/a>outlines the results of a survey of NHS whistleblowing guardians which aimed to understand how the role has been implemented, who is being appointed to the role and guardians&#8217; views on the Freedom to Speak Up initiative. The report makes ten recommendations for the development of the role as a result of the findings of the survey.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Improving staff retention: a guide for employers &#8211;\u00a0NHS Employers<\/strong><br \/>\nThis <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhsemployers.org\/~\/media\/Employers\/Documents\/Retention-Guide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">guide <\/a>reflects and builds upon the work that NHS Employers has been doing since late 2016 with 92 NHS trusts, to identify and implement actions that can reduce the rate of leavers in NHS organisations. It also includes a number of case studies that illustrate the breadth of work that is being done across the NHS to improve staff retention.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Standards for general practice nurses<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Queen\u2019s Nursing Institute has launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qni.org.uk\/explore-qni\/policy-practice\/general-practice-nurse-standards\/\">General Practice Nurse Standards: voluntary standards for education and practice<\/a>.\u00a0 The standards have been designed to reflect the requirements of this role, working in new models of care and to reflect the rapid changes in the primary care environment.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Steering towards strategic commissioning<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS Clinical Commissioners has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhscc.org\/latest-news\/strategic-comm\/\">Steering towards strategic commissioning: transforming the system<\/a>.\u00a0 This analysis, informed by a survey and interviews with CCG leaders, found there is a strong belief that healthcare commissioning must continue to be clinically led, operate at a scale larger than a CCG footprint, retain its purchasing function and remain accountable to the local population.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Fair organisational decision making<\/strong><br \/>\nRAND Europe has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rand.org\/pubs\/research_reports\/RR1827.html\">Understanding how organisations ensure that their decision making is fair<\/a>.\u00a0 The General Medical Council commissioned RAND Europe to conduct a study examining the tools, practices and processes used by organisations to support fair decision making.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Practical guidance on sharing of information and information governance for all NHS organisations specifically for Prevent and the Channel process &#8211;\u00a0NHS England<\/strong><br \/>\nThis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/information-sharing-information-governance-prevent.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">guidance <\/a>is intended to assist those involved in information sharing and information governance for the purpose of Prevent, a counter-terrorism safeguarding programme.
