Critical and Emergency Care Nursing Winner:<\/strong> Introducing the pause after a death on the critical care unit,  <\/em>Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust.<\/em><\/p>\n

The judges said this project linked to the fundamentals of nursing care by providing a respectful, peaceful and compassionate closure after the death of a patient. ‘The Pause’ is a nurse-led initiative based on events affecting the team during the pandemic that allows relatives and staff members to join together to hold a minute of reflective silence. This initiative is not related to any particular belief or religion and is mighty transferable to all clinical areas as the only requirement is an act of kindness by honouring and paying respect to those who have been loved and cared for by those present.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to the Critical Care Team, at Southport Hospital, who have made it through to the final of the prestigious Nursing Times Awards.<\/p>\n

The team have been shortlisted for the Critical and Emergency Care Nursing Award, which requires nursing to reflect high levels of skill and expertise, and the ability to think and act quickly in a crisis.<\/p>\n

The team will celebrate their achievements at the glitzy awards ceremony in London later this year. We wish them the very best of luck!<\/p>\n

\nHuge congratulations for our fantastic ICU team at Southport hospital!\"NT<\/p>\n

Last night they scooped a prestigious award from Nursing Times in the Emergency and Critical Care category.
\nVisiting this unit, which cares for the most seriously sick patients, has been challenging since March. This has been extremely difficult and upsetting for patients and families, and this inspired frustrated staff to find innovative solutions.<\/p>\n

\"ICUOne of their ideas was to create a short video<\/a> of the unit, so that families could more easily visualise the situation their loved ones were in.<\/p>\n

Our Chief Executive Trish Armstrong Child explains: \u201cI am immensely proud of every single person who has worked in our Trust through these challenging times. All of you have been affected by the pandemic, and our intensive care team have set a fantastic example.
\n\u201cI would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to each one of them. I think all of you deserve an award, so I am delighted this amazing team has been recognised with such a prestigious accolade.\u201d <\/p>\n

ITU at Southport hospital have been shortlisted for a Nursing Times award thanks to the innovative ways team members worked during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. The winner will be announced in London in October.<\/p>\n

Matron Angie Westwood said: \u201cIn normal times, we pride ourselves on holding the hands, literally and emotionally, of our patients\u2019 families.  When visiting had to stop, we had to think and act quickly to find new ways to support people.”<\/p>\n

This included creating a video of the unit<\/a>, so that families could more easily visualise the situation their loved ones were in.<\/p>\n

Angie added: \u201cI am immensely proud of every single person who worked in this unit over the last few months.  Each one had to put their own concerns and worries aside, working tirelessly in the most challenging circumstances that any of us have ever experienced. I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to each one of them, and say how much I think they deserve to win this award.\u201d<\/p>\n

In line with our animals in healthcare settings policy we are delighted to welcome pet therapy dogs to visit and assist with rehabilitation and patient well-being . Patients may also be visited by their own pet if this is wanted.  This lovely doggy is Scout.<\/p>\n
