and to commit to and work towards improvements to the provision of mental health services.<\/p>\n<p>The manifesto focuses on five main areas with several suggested improvements and commitments for each.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key features of driver:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The five areas the manifesto focuses on are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Funding for mental health.<\/li>\n<li>Mental health services for children.<\/li>\n<li>Improving the physical health care of people with mental health conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Improving the lives of those with mental health conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Improving access to mental healthcare services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Within these area there calls for action around:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Increasing funding so improvements can be implemented; and basing funding decisions on their impact on the delivery of mental and physical health services.<\/li>\n<li>Women\u2019s access to mental health services during and post pregnancy.<\/li>\n<li>Mental health being part of the school curriculum.<\/li>\n<li>Training school nurses and teachers about mental health.<\/li>\n<li>Continued funding for evidence-based parenting programmes.<\/li>\n<li>Reducing avoidable deaths amongst those with mental health conditions<\/li>\n<li>Ensuing doctors monitor the physical health of people with mental health conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Applying the reduction of smoking targets equally to people with mental health problems \u2013 reducing the risks to their physical health.<\/li>\n<li>The Time to Change programme<\/li>\n<li>Combining employment support and health support for unemployed people with mental health conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Implementing maximum waiting times for mental health services.<\/li>\n<li>Crisis care and the Crisis Care Condordat.<\/li>\n<li>A national network of liaison and diversion mental health services, to work with the police and the courts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Primary audience:<\/strong>\u00a0Politicians, in the run up to the 2015 general election.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Impact on library policy\/practice:<\/strong>\u00a0No immediate direct impact on libraries identified.<\/p>\n<p>If these ideas are taken up by a future government, there may in an increased interest in evidence-based information around the topics and service developments suggested.<\/p>\n<p>This could influence the topics which libraries receive literature search and current awareness service requests for.\u00a0This may also require collection development around these topics and to support strategy development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Date last updated:<\/strong>\u00a0October 2017<\/p>\n<p><strong>Due for review:<\/strong>\u00a0October 2018<\/p>\n<p><strong>Group member responsible:<\/strong>\u00a0FG<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Title of driver:\u00a0A Manifesto for Better Mental Health Source:\u00a0\u00a0The Mental Health Policy Group. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (Rethink Mental Illness, Centre&#8230;
