New staff engagement case studies – NHS Employers 

NHS Employers has been working with three NHS trusts on some new case studies around staff engagement.


Future organisational models for the NHS: Perspectives for the Dalton review  – The King’s Fund

Ahead of the Dalton review, which is examining ways to encourage the best providers to support those that are struggling, our paper with the Foundation Trust Network explores some of the organisational models that providers could use to meet their current strategic and financial challenges.


Healthy Lives, Healthy People: A Public Health Workforce Strategy – HM Government

This is an updated version of the report saying what we have done over the last year and what the next steps are for each of the 14 commitments set out in the 2013 strategy. The strategy sets out actions for various partners in the new public health system to support and develop the public health workforce. It will help embed public health capacity within the wider workforce to support delivery of the public health outcomes framework. The commitments will be delivered by a range of organisations including Public Health England, the Department of Health, Health Education England and local authorities. The strategy will be reviewed in 2015.


CCG leader calls for new GP relationship with community health services  – GP Online 

A CCG chairman has called for a re-building of the primary care team to allow the proper transfer of services from the secondary care sector.


Performance review report 2013/14 – Professional Standards Authority

This report is part of the annual review of professional regulatory bodies undertaken by Professional Standards Authority. Whilst all regulators continue to fulfil their statutory duty to protect the public, the report highlights concerns surrounding the most frequent failures: in fitness to practice and registration.


Pressure on GPs forces more than 5m patients a year to turn to A&E – GP Online 

GP leaders have warned that data showing more than 5m patients a year visit A&E because GP appointments are unavailable is evidence of a growing crisis in primary care.


GPs should not provide front-line A&E triage, says former GPC leader – GP Online 

Putting GPs at the front door of A&E to triage patients is the ‘wrong model’ as it diverts them away from mounting workloads in the practice, a former GPC deputy chairman has warned.
