NHS England Chief offers local government leaders radical new health and social care integration option – NHS England

High-need individuals to be offered ability to control their own blended NHS and community care, in partnership with voluntary sector. The NHS will offer local councils across England a radical new option in which individuals could control their combined health and social care support, Simon Stevens CEO of NHS England will announce today.


CQC hired inspectors who failed recruitment criteria in ‘flawed’ process – HSJ Article 

The Care Quality Commission has admitted that scores of its inspectors were appointed despite falling short of its own recruitment standards, creating the risk that its regulatory judgments could be “impaired”.

The Dalton Review: new options for providers of NHS care – Department of Health

This independent review, led by Sir David Dalton (Chief Executive of Salford Royal), is investigating ways to secure the clinical and financial sustainability of providers of NHS care through offering new options for organisational forms. The review is running an informal engagement on the work and is seeking information and insight about organisational forms for providers of NHS care: what works best, and what changes are needed to improve the delivery of services.

Gaps in UK maternal mental health services

Maps highlighting the gaps in specialist perinatal mental health services provision have been published by the Maternal Mental Health Alliance to mark the launch of its Everyone’s business campaign. Pregnant women and new mothers across almost half of the UK do not have access to such services potentially leaving them and their babies at risk. The Alliance of professional bodies, patient organisations and charities, is warning that women who develop a perinatal mental illness are missing out on essential and potentially lifesaving care.
