Plan to shake up services at struggling North West trust revealed – Health Service Journal 
Controversial proposals to transfer patients between hospital sites at a struggling North West trust have been revealed.


National Values Based Recruitment Framework – Health Education England
This framework aims to ensure that all students and staff entering the NHS not only have the right skills, but the right values to care for patients. The framework is designed around six core requirements which have been developed based on evidence and engagement with stakeholders.


Social media measurement and evaluation
NHS Employers has published Briefing 97: Best practice in social media measurement and evaluation.  As clinical and managerial staff are becoming experienced at using social media for work, many NHS staff now want to be able to show, through measurement and evaluation, how their social media work brings value to their roles. NICE Quality Standard: Head injury
NICE has published a new Quality Standard for Head injury (QS74). NICE quality standards describe high-priority areas for quality improvement in a defined care or service area. Each standard consists of a prioritised set of specific, concise and measurable statements. They draw on existing guidance, which provides an underpinning, comprehensive set of recommendations, and are designed to support the measurement of improvement. This quality standard covers assessment, early management and rehabilitation following head injury in children, young people and adults.


NICE guidance NICE has published the following guidance:

  • Dabrafenib for treating unresectable or metastatic BRAF V600 mutation‑positive melanoma – Technology appraisal (TA321)

NICE consultations

  • Acute coronary syndrome – rivaroxaban (ID532) consultation. Closing date for comment 13 November 2014.
  • End of life care for infants, children and young people: scope consultation. Closing date for comment 18 November 2014.
  • Cardiovascular risk assessment: topic engagement exercise. Closing date for comment 31 October 2014.
  • Lipid modification: topic engagement exercise. Closing date for comment 31 October 2014.

Implementing The ‘Responsible Consultant/Clinician’ And ‘Named Nurse’ In Your NHS Foundation Trust – Monitor
One of the recommendations of the Francis Report and the government’s response was that every hospital patient should have the name of the consultant and nurse responsible for their care above their bed: the ‘responsible consultant/clinician’ and ‘named nurse’. This letter to all foundation trust medical and nursing directors outline details of the implementation of the ‘responsible consultant/clinician’ and ‘named nurse’ recommendation. Each NHS trust has been asked to provide the relevant information on the implementation of these recommendations.


NHS providers strategy toolkit
Monitor has published a toolkit to support all NHS providers in developing clear and well-thought-out strategies. Strategy development: a toolkit for NHS providers has been developed with five NHS foundation trust ‘test sites’ to support all FTs – acute, community, mental health and ambulance trusts – in developing sound strategies.


Final Care Act guidance published
The Department of Health has published a suite of updated guidance in relation to the Care Act following a government consultation on draft regulations and guidance on the care and support reforms in the Care Act 2014 which come into effect in April 2015. The consultation received over 4,000 responses from many different sources. The Department of Health has updated Care Act factsheets in light of the government response to the consultation on regulations and guidance. The changes include clarifying the guidance on adult safeguarding and revising the eligibility criteria to focus on outcomes and better address social isolation.
