Measuring employee productivity, topic overview – Public Health England

An overview of the literature on employee productivity and the different ways to measure it.   It includes information on:

  • measuring productivity
  • presenteeism (attending work whilst sick)
  • productivity and wellbeing

The impact of physical environments on employee wellbeing, topic overview – Public Health England
This document provides an overview of the literature on the impact of particular elements of the physical work environment on employee wellbeing. Specifically:

  • the office layout
  • office furniture
  • workplace lighting and temperature
  • employee control over their work environment

Spend and outcome tool (SPOT) update  – Public Health England

  • The Spend and outcome tool (SPOT) gives an overview of spend and outcomes across key areas of business and can be used to identify areas of significant variance across clinical specialisms which are likely to require more in-depth analysis.
  • This refresh includes local authority data for 2015 and clinical commissioning data (based on programme budgeting data) for 2014.
  • There is a factsheet for each LA and CCG, and an interactive excel spreadsheet which allows benchmarking against other organisations.
  • The spreadsheet has a worksheet showing peers – including ONS cluster, Deprivation decile, and NHSE cluster.

Patient safety alert – addressing antimicrobial resistance through implementation of an antimicrobial stewardship programme – NHS England 
NHS England, Health Education England and Public Health England have issued a joint National Patient Safety Alert to all providers of NHS care in England to highlight the challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the need for antimicrobial stewardship. Inappropriate use of antimicrobials has been a key driver in AMR, which has risen alarmingly over the last 40 years. From 2010 to 2013, total antibiotic prescribing in England increased by 6%, comprised of a 4% rise in general practice and a 12% increase in hospital inpatient prescribing.
