CVD: Primary Care Intelligence Packs: NHS West Lancashire CCG – Public Health England

This can help with planning, commissioning and improving local services.  The pack uses GP practice data on prevention, detection and management across a range of cardiovascular conditions:

  • coronary heart disease and heart failure

We’ve published a new case study looking at how East Kent Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust improved experience for staff in their first year and saw new starter turnover improve by nearly 20 per cent.


CCG improvement and assessment framework 2016/17 – NHS England
This framework replaces both the existing CCG assurance framework and CCG performance dashboard. In the government’s mandate to NHS England, the new improvement and assessment framework takes an enhanced and more central place in the overall arrangements for public accountability of the NHS.


The recruitment, retention and return of nurses to general practice nursing in England –  NHS England
This report, authored by Ipsos MORI, outlines the findings of qualitative research into the drivers and barriers to entry into general practice nursing (GPN). It finds that the general perception is that general practice is more suitable for older or more experienced nurses. As student placements in general practice are rare, there is a lack of opportunity for students to develop an understanding of the GPN role. The research also highlights the need for greater support for GPNs and the lack of standardisation in pay for GPN roles.


Improving access for all: reducing inequalities in access to general practice services –  NHS England
This guide aimed at GP commissioners and providers aims to promote understanding of groups in the community who are experiencing barriers in accessing services and help to address those barriers as improvements in access to GP services are implemented.


Dementia in older age: barriers to primary prevention and factors – Public Health England (PHE)
These evidence reviews, authored by the Personal Social Services Research Unit at the London School of Economics, aim to aid commissioners and researchers make decisions about prioritisation of primary prevention measures relevant to dementia. The reviews find evidence that changing some behaviours in midlife can reduce the chances of getting dementia in older age.


Healthcare priorities and Brexit
The Brexit Healthcare Alliance has published Collective “asks” as the UK negotiates to exit the EU. This report sets the Alliance’s five priorities to safeguard the UK healthcare sector during the formal process of leaving the EU. These priorities include: ensuring maximum levels of research and innovation collaboration; providing regulatory alignment for the benefit of patients and population health; preservation of reciprocal healthcare arrangements; robust coordination mechanisms on public health and wellbeing; and securing a strong funding commitment to the health and public health sectors.
