Oversight of NHS-controlled providers
NHS England has published Oversight of NHS-controlled providers: guidance.  This document provides guidance on NHS England’s oversight approach to organisations controlled by NHS trusts/ foundation trusts, and delivering significant amounts of services for the NHS.  NHS England has also published responses to the consultation that took place last year.


NHS Tax Survey
Reform has published the results from its 2018 NHS Tax Survey.  The results indicate 59% of people would be willing to pay higher income tax to fund more spending in the NHS whilst 58% somewhat agree or strongly agree  with the statement that the NHS needs reform more than it needs extra money. On average, British voters would be willing to pay £5.25 extra a month, which is 0.4 pence in the pound of income tax.


Hillingdon NHS Trust’s frailty unit gets over-65s home earlier – Chartered Society of Physiotherapy 
A frailty unit for older people at Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust is enabling more patients to be discharged early and treated at home, specialist physiotherapist Rebecca Walden told Frontline.

  • Thousands of NHS staff to transfer to subsidiary companies 
    The employment contracts of thousands of non-clinical NHS staff could be transferred to subsidiary companies under plans being drawn up by 16 hospital trusts.
  • Trusts with staff transfer plans 
    HSJ has identified 19 providers that have already established a subsidiary company to manage their estate, plus 16 that have told staff they are considering the move.
  • Region risks losing £15m of healthcare funding 
    Northamptonshire is at risk of losing £15m of joint health and social care funding because of a failure to sign a contract and meet mandated NHS England targets.
  • Social care rates fall as hospital admissions rise 
    Overall council performance on delayed transfers of care due to social care continued to improve as hospital admissions increased in December, despite more than half of local authorities failing to meet government targets set in July.
  • Regulator seeks chief executive with ‘strong moral compass’ 
    The Care Quality Commission has advertised for a new chief executive to succeed Sir David Behan, saying the individual must have a “strong moral compass”.
