Data Security and Protection Toolkit (formerly IG Toolkit)
NHS Digital has launched the new Data Security and Protection Toolkit which replaces the Information Governance Toolkit.  The Toolkit has been developed to be easier to use and with a simpler format.  It is also designed to help organisations measure themselves against the National Data Guardian’s ten data security standards and key elements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).


Housing projects to prevent delayed discharge
Housing LIN and Foundations have developed an interactive map showing projects preventing delayed discharges from hospital due to a housing issue.  This map also displays NHS England-reported data showing the number of delayed discharges of care from hospital arising from housing issues (showing the period between January – December 2017).


Obesity services
The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Obesity has published The current landscape of obesity services.  This report presents the findings of an inquiry which sought to gather a body of evidence highlighting the current provision of obesity services, identify the barriers to better provision and sought to establish a consensus around potential solutions.  The report makes a number of recommendations which includes the development of a national obesity strategy.


Primary care support services
The National Audit Office has published NHS England’s management of the primary care support services contract with Capita.  This report assesses whether NHS England managed the Primary Care Support England (PCSE) contract effectively to secure the intended benefits. It examines how the PCSE contract was set up; performance issues, including action taken by NHS England and Capita to address these issues; the reasons for the contract failures; and the current status of the contract.


Suicide prevention and reduction
NHS England has announced additional funding to develop suicide prevention and reduction schemes in eight STPs with a high level of need.  The funding is intended to ensure people are aware of high quality confidential help within their community.  Details on plans from each STP are provided.

  • Chronic pain and low back pain pathway at Sheffield Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) Service
  • Early intervention service is supporting families when and where they need it – Tower Hamlets
  • Employment Advisors in Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service at Let’s Talk-Wellbeing – Leicestershire County and Rutland
  • Mental health “game-changer care leads to 75 per cent reduction in hospital admissions –Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG

 


Increasing breastfeeding rates
UNICEF has published Breastfeeding: a mother’s gift for every child.  This report provides new analysis on breastfeeding practices around the world and sets out key recommendations for governments, the private sector, civil society and communities in low-, middle- and high-income countries to increase breastfeeding rates
