Developing the long-term plan for the NHS – NHS Improvement & NHS England
The NHS has been asked to set out a long-term plan for the future of the NHS by the autumn, setting out our ambitions for improvement over the next decade, and our plans to meet them over the five years of the funding settlement.


Access and waiting times – Nuffield Trust & Health Foundation (Quality Watch)
With a review of access targets forming part of the long-term plan for the NHS, we take a longer-term look at some of the best known indicators, including the totemic four-hour A&E target.


CCG assessment: maternity and cancer
NHS England has published two documents relating to CCG assessments.  These contain the independent panel commentary, methodology of the ratings for 2017/18 and the CCG individual assessment ratings for 2017/18.

NHS England has also published CCG Improvement and Assessment Framework (CCG IAF) – Maternity Support Offer.  This document is an offer to CCGs enabling them to make improvements against the maternity indicators chosen for the CCG Improvement and Assessment Framework.


Sharing data effectively in the public sector
Reform has published Sharing the benefits: how to use data effectively in the public sector.  This report demonstrates the potential of data sharing to transform the delivery of public services and improve outcomes for citizens. It explores how government can overcome various challenges to ‘get data right’ and enable better use of personal data within and between public-sector organisations.


GP online services: information for Patient Participation Groups
NHS England has published Patient Participation Groups – What you need to know about GP online services.   A guide for GP online services Patient Participation Group (PPG) members which gives some tips on how to engage their practice in registering more patients for online services.


Data sharing and privacy
The Office for the National Data Guardian & Connected Health Cities has published Reasonable expectations report: a report of a citizens’ jury designed to explore when it is reasonable for patient to expect patient data to be shared.  This article and accompanying report present a citizen’s jury findings on when people would normally expect their confidential patient information to be used and shared and when they would expect it to be kept private.


Impact of new medicines
The Office of Health Economics has published The impact of new medicines in the NHS: 70 years of innovation.  The report demonstrates the contribution and impact of medicines to the health economy in the UK throughout the 70-year history of the NHS.  It identifies a shortlist of the most important medicines to have been brought to market, and attempts to quantify the benefits of these key medicines in terms of health and economic outcomes.


Enhanced maternal care guidelines
The Royal College of Anaesthetists has published The care of the critically ill woman in childbirth: enhanced maternal care 2018.  The study summarises recommendations relevant to the care of pregnant or recently pregnant, acutely or chronically unwell women, who require acute hospital maternity and critical care specialist services.


General practice in England
The House of Commons Library has published a briefing General practice in England.  This briefing summarises the contract for general practice, funding commitments, Forward View for General Practice, access to GP services, GP indemnity costs and patient choice of GP practice.
