Attitudes towards emergency care
The National Centre for Social Research has published the results from the British Social Attitudes Survey relating to attitudes towards emergency care.  These results consider whether people share policy makers’ concerns about over-use of emergency services and whether public attitudes and perceptions suggest strategies put forward to tackle this issue might be successful.  They reveal significant differences in perspectives by a range of socio-demographic factors, such as area deprivation, age, young children in the household and gender.

Complaints about the NHS in England
The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has published Complaints about the NHS in England Quarter 4 2018-19. This report provides statistics on complaints about the NHS in England (Quarter 4 2018-19). It presents data about the NHS complaints received, assessed and investigated by the Ombudsman from January to March 2019, and the recommendations made.


NIHR Signals
The following research summaries have been added to the National Institute for Health Research website:

  • Robot-assisted training offers little useful improvement in severe arm weakness and function after stroke
  • Cardiac rehabilitation for heart failure can improve quality of life and fitness
  • Reminders to assess clotting risk increase the use of preventive measures
