Preparing for a challenging winter 2020/21 – Academy of Medical Sciences
This report states that the UK must prepare now for a potential new wave of coronavirus infections this winter that could be more serious than the first. It stresses that ‘intense preparation’ is urgently needed throughout the rest of July and August to reduce the risk of the health service being overwhelmed and to save lives this winter. The accompanying People’s perspective report calls for these actions to be developed through engagement with patients, carers and the public to ensure services, guidelines and communications work for people, rather than focusing plans on individual medical conditions.

COVID-19 – guidance for planning paediatric staffing and rotas, RCPCH (Updated 10th July)
This is guidance to help individuals who are planning paediatric and neonatal staffing, rotas and services. We are aware that different services and regions will have varying requirements. Whilst we have endured the first peak of the pandemic, and many services are beginning to return to ‘the new normal’, it is vital that we consider any impacts on current staffing as well as future readiness in case of a second peak amid the usual peak activity over the winter months.

Rebuilding the NHS: resetting outpatient services for the 21st century in the context of Covid-19 – Royal College of Physicians (RCP)
In this document the RCP, together with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), set out principles and recommendations for the reset of outpatient services. The Covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated that the NHS can adapt quickly and presents an opportunity to reset outpatient services.

The King’s Fund: Delays to treatment and continuation of care realistic
Following publication of monthly hospital performance data and the GP Patient Survey 2020 results, analysts from the King’s Fund have cautioned patients that they could well face long waits for care to continue as the health service continues to face significant challenges.

COVID-19 pandemic recovery toolkit for NHS Trusts, HEE
This toolkit is a collation of resources to support Trusts during the recovery phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. It includes sections on recovery planning, capacity and long-term impacts, workforce wellbeing, learning lessons, organisational resilience and innovation. Updated as necessary.

The impact of the Covid-19 epidemic on all-cause attendances to emergency departments in two large London hospitals: an observational study, Imperial College
This report aimed to assess how the reorganisation of hospital care and admission policies to respond to the Covid-19 epidemic affected emergency attendances and emergency hospital admissions. The report uses administrative patient-level clinical hospital records from two large London hospitals from Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (St Mary’s and Charing Cross) to analyse trends in attendances to emergency departments and emergency admissions pre- and post-implementation of lockdown policies in England.

Can I receive and store images sent from patients during remote consultations?BMJ
Consider, carefully, if it’s appropriate. Samuel Stone, standards policy officer at the General Medical Council, says, “Photographs and videos are increasingly important tools for doctors embracing remote consultations—but patients must be assured of their protection.
