Digital delivery principles – NHS Providers 
This guide (produced jointly with Public Digital as part of the Digital Boards development programme) outlines practical takeaways for NHS trust leaders, shares peer learning and summarises key considerations for all board members when building and implementing digital services. It aims to increase board members’ confidence in delivering digital at their trust and help them to avoid common mistakes.

Making wound care work: rebuilding services for the 3.8 million people living with a wound in the UK – Patients Association
This report, published jointly with the company Mölnlycke, found that around 28 per cent of patients are managing their own wounds due to the pandemic. The report (based on a survey and interview with patients, and a survey of wound care nurses) also found that the majority (88 per cent) of nurses fear that Covid-19 has had a negative impact on wound care services and eight out of ten are worried about the delays it has caused to appointments, and the knock-on effect of delays to patient outcomes.

Patient engagement with digital health care: lessons from the Care City test bed – Nuffield Trust 
Health apps and digital tools have the potential to help alleviate some of the huge pressures the NHS faces from Covid-19, the backlog of care and rising demand. But introducing these tools into health care and supporting people to use them is never a quick fix, and they will not work for everyone. This summary provides a set of lessons for ensuring digital health innovations are applied in optimal ways for the people using them. The findings are based on a large-scale evaluation of digital technologies being implemented in health and social care in East London.

Enablers for success: virtual wards including hospital at home – NHS England and NHS Improvement

This guidance supports ICSs with their strategic and financial decisions on virtual ward planning and implementation. Designed for ICS leadership teams, but will also be helpful for provider organisations as they plan together to implement this model.

This explainer looks at provider collaboratives in England, the opportunities they provide and the unresolved questions to consider when thinking about their role in the changing health and care landscape.

Integration and innovation in action: provider collaboration – NHS Confederation
This report looks at how collaborations between providers at neighbourhood, place and system level are making a positive impact on patient care. It explores different types of collaboration between providers at neighbourhood, place and system level. Based on interviews with leaders and clinicians, it identifies a set of common principles that underpin effective partnership working.

What next for NHS management? Messages for Messenger – NHS Confederation 
A review of leadership in health and social care, led by General Sir Gordon Messenger, is underway and due to report in spring 2022. Ahead of the review’s recommendations, the NHS Confederation and independent academics from the University of York and London South Bank University are publishing a series of long reads on NHS management. In this final instalment, Professor Ian Kirkpatrick and Professor Becky Malby examine the implications for the future of NHS management and provide some key messages for the Messenger review and for systems leaders.
