Commissioning and contracting for integrated care – The King’s Fund
The Kings Fund has published Commissioning and contracting for integrated care. This report describes how clinical commissioning groups in England are innovating with two broad models the prime contract and alliance contract. It draws on experiences from five geographical areas, covering different population and disease groups (cancer, end-of-life care, musculoskeletal services, mental health rehabilitation, and older people’s services). It concludes by highlighting four lessons that CCGs, other commissioners and providers should keep in mind as they embark on new models of commissioning and contracting to support integrated care.
Carbon monoxide (CO): antenatal checks algorithm for midwives – HM Government
This flowchart can help midwives identify pregnant women who might be exposed to CO from sources other than products containing tobacco. As well as aiding identification of such women, it includes advice and key telephone numbers for services providing further advice and practical assistance. Data sharing guidance leaflet – Department of Health
The Department of Health and the Information Governance Alliance has launched a consultation aimed at improving the guidance leafletConfidentiality and Information Sharing for Direct Care Guidance for health and care professionals. The Department wants the leaflet to be as useful as possible, easy to understand, and find ways of ensure people use the document. The consultation period closes on the 31 January 2015.
Pregnancy and breast cancer – Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists has published a new patient information leaflet Pregnancy and breast cancer. The leaflet aims to help women who are pregnant and have breast cancer or are worried they may have. It also has information for women who have had breast cancer and are thinking about having a baby. It may be useful too for a partner, relative or friend of someone who has been in this situation.
Liverpool CCG funds hospital GPs – Health Service Journal
Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group has approved new funds to put GPs in two local hospitals in an attempt to alleviate pressure on accident and emergency services.

Planning for the better care fund – National Audit Office
The National Audit Office has published Planning for the Better Care Fund. The National Audit Office recognizes that a government programme to integrate local health and social care services to improve care in the community and lessen pressures on health services is an innovative idea. However, according to this report, the quality of early preparation and planning did not match the scale of ambition, and that current plans forecast only £314m of savings for the NHS, rather than the £1 billion in early planning assumptions.
NHS pay 2015 evidence to pay review bodies – Department of Health
The Department of Health has published updated information in Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration review for 2015 written evidence from the Department of Health. This revised document set out the government’s response to supplementary questions from the doctors, dentists review body. These documents are produced annually and provide evidence from the Department of Health to the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration and the NHS Pay Review Body.
