Sustainable development in the health and care sector – annual performance maps – Sustainable Development Unit
These interactive online maps outline how the health and care system is doing on sustainable development. They show how the system across England’s is performing by regions – which can be shown either by NHS or PHE area boundaries. Produced with the support of Public Health England the maps enable comparison between geographical areas and across a number of important measures including planning, carbon emissions, water and waste.

Midwifery workforce
The Royal College of Midwives has published two reports focusing on midwifery staffing:

How nurses support families of intensive care patients towards the end of life – National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)
This systematic review finds that families of people dying in intensive care need to receive personalised communication and ongoing support, and be involved in the dying process. The findings support current NICE recommendations for health professionals to deliver care that meets the needs and preferences of the dying person and their family, wherever they are.
How high-need patients experience health care in the United States – Commonwealth Fund
This briefing outlines the findings from the Commonwealth Fund’s annual survey of high-need patients. It finds that the health care system is failing to fully meet the complex needs of these patients and to develop interventions for this group, social and behaviour needs should be accounted for. The report makes recommendations for improved assessment of patients’ comprehensive needs, access to care and communication with patients.
