Find the Evidence

Looking for the evidence but don’t know where to start? The databases and other resources below are accessible via your NHS OpenAthens account and provide you with a starting point for your literature searching. We also provide a literature searching service and can search the literature for you.

NHS Evidence – Through NHS Evidence you are able to access the Healthcare Databases Advanced Search (HDAS) to search across key databases to find articles and research papers. You can also search for NICE evidence and the latest guidance, and access online journals and other resources.

BMJ Best Practice – BMJ Best Practice is a clinical decision support tool that takes you quickly and accurately to the latest evidence based information, whenever and wherever you need it. Login with your OpenAthens account – once you are logged in you can create a personal account which will allow you to download the BMJ Best Practice app and track your CME/CPD activity.

Cochrane Library – The Cochrane Library provides a database of Cochrane Systematic reviews, access to the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and other key resources.

BNF and BNF for Children – The British National Formulary and the British National Formulary for Children provide UK healthcare professionals with authoritative and practical information on the selection and clinical use of medicines in a clear, concise and accessible manner. There is an app available for the BNF which you can download to your personal device. Please click here for more information.

Royal Marsden Manual Online – Clinical nurse experts from one of the UK’s leading centres of expertise have brought together all the latest clinical evidence nurses need to meet confidently the requirements of their demanding profession. The Manual includes over 350 evidence-based clinical procedures related to every aspect of care, from handwashing to cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Anatomy.tv – Anatomy TV is an online anatomy resource which gives you access to interactive 3D graphic models of human anatomy, as well as dissection radiology slides, animations and videos.

Social Care Online Database – Social Care Online is the UK’s largest database of information and research on all aspects of social care and social work. It is free to sign up and create an account.

PubMed – PubMed is a general medical database produced by the US National Library of Medicine. Use this link to see LCFT journal holdings in the search results.
