Government launches new neighbourhood health services

The government has announced new neighbourhood health services in 43 communities across England, supported by £10 million funding.

These services will bring together GPs, nurses, pharmacists, social care staff, and voluntary organisations to provide joined-up support closer to where people live.

For mental health, this means earlier help, less time waiting, and care that looks at the whole person – not just individual conditions. By connecting physical and mental health support, the aim is to reduce avoidable hospital visits and make it easier for people to get the help they need in their own communities.

Clinical mental health nursing leadership is essential in enabling and empowering registered mental health nurses to continuously improve their learning on quality and safety and the care they provide to patients and families. This document describes the implementation of the professional nurse educator (PNE) role within mental health services and offers advice on how providers of mental health services can effectively implement the role within their mental health services.

The culture of care standards for mental health inpatient care set out in this guidance support all providers to realise the culture of care within inpatient settings everyone wants to experience – people who need this care and their families, and the staff who provide this care. They apply across the life course to all NHS-funded mental health inpatient service types, including those for people with a learning disability and autistic people, as well as specialised mental health inpatient services such as mother and baby units, secure services, and children and young people’s mental health inpatient services.

Long Covid

A framework for nursing, midwifery, and care staff

This framework supports nurses, midwives and care staff in ensuring care remains at a high standard, as well as demonstrating the contribution to the long Covid response. It aims to give the opportunity to embrace collective leadership in supporting people and communities served and showcase good practice as it emerges across England.
