Proquest E-book Central

We are pleased to announce that the Trust now has access to the industry’s premier ebook platform which offers scholarly ebooks from leading publishers. Proquest E-book Central is being trialled within the Trust to allow staff to access over 180 thousand e-books across all disciplinaries.

The platform is accessible with an Open Athens account. Access the platform here: https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/lscbhsft/home.action (please ensure you have logged in with your Open Athens details first).

The platform allows you to search for a given title or browse the collections. From there you are able to read the whole text online, download the book for up to 21 days, or download a PDF chapter.

The Library team are always keen to hear feedback about the resources available to staff. Please email: academic.library@lscft.nhs.uk with any comments, feedback, suggestions or book title recommendations.

Hello from your new outreach librarian

Hello everyone,

I wanted to formally introduce myself. My name is Katie Roper and I am the newly appointed outreach librarian across Lancashire and South Cumbria. I have a background in education, and it was during my time teaching in Birmingham Children’s Hospital, I realised I wanted to work for the NHS rather than alongside it.. now here we are.

My role involves supporting all staff, students, and service users to effectively and efficiently use electronic resources to make decisions and judgements based on evidence based practice.

Struggling to find evidence in your field of work? Short of time to find your own evidence?  Contact the library service to aid you with a literature search. Training can also be provided to support your own professional development.

The Gosall Library has arranged a free trial with McGraw Hill for LSCFT staff and students to access their Mental Health Education Reading List Collection.  The trial is available until the end of June.

The Reading List Collection from McGraw Hill and Open University Press have been created to help provide easy access to the core textbooks and recommended reading your students need to be successful on their courses.

Within these collections, we offer a wide range of titles that should give your students the confidence they need to master and learn all they need to in their area of study.  We are currently offering five collections covering

  • Psychology, counselling & psychotherapy,
  • Nursing,
  • Social Work,
  • Education & Study,
  • Writing and Research Skills.

Clinical, mental health, and nursing e-book collections

Around 5,000 titles have been made available from EBSCO via OpenAthens until the end of May 2020 and include titles from Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, McGraw-Hill Education, Springer Publishing, Wolters Kluwer Health, Taylor & Francis and Cambridge Scholars Publishing.

The clinical collection is available here and topic areas include dermatology, gynaecology and obstetrics, internal medicine, medicine (general), nursing, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, pathology, paediatrics, pharmacology and surgery.

The nursing collection is available here and topic areas include nursing research and theory, pharmacology, nursing management, evidence-based nursing, home care nursing and leadership.

The psychology collection is available here and topic areas include psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, counselling, social psychology, evolutionary psychology, developmental psychology and more.

Oxford Medicine Online

To help NHS staff who are tackling COVID-19, Oxford University Press is providing access to the entirety of Oxford Medicine Online to the NHS until the end of June 2020.

Library users can freely access Oxford Medicine Online using their OpenAthens login details here.

In addition Oxford Medicine Online has also freed up a collection of online resources and journals addressing COVID-19 in the hope that this information will be useful to medical professionals and carers. Find the resources here.
